About the Event
We will be sharing about 3 amazing women who were Native American and made tremendous contributions to our Nation's history. We will also learn the traditional teachings behind the Ribbon Skirt, and have a presenter there to offer instruction on making your very own Ribbon Skirt.Â
What To Bring:Â
Materials required for one skirt
- 2.5 meters of fabric - (2x's the length they want +5" extra for the hem and waistband)
- Ribbon at least 2.5 meters per colour for each row of ribbon
- Thread
- Scissors
- Pinking shears (optional)
- Elastic band 1.5 inches width and at least 1.5 meters in length
- Ruler - Yardstick (optional)
- Measuring tape
- Straight pins (optional)
- Large safety pin
- Iron - two will be there but will need to share
- Sewing Machine - there will be two 9 X 4.5 X 12.5 battery-operated, two-speed sewing machine available to share, as well as one portable hand held sewing machine
Feel free to donate. We will be accepting Baby Basket items or Monetary Donations. Baby Basket Items include: Newborn Diapers, Baby Wipes, Baby Wash, Baby Lotion, Baby Onesies, Baby Blankets, Baby Wash Cloths, Baby Towels, Baby Moccasins, and Dreamcatchers.
We will be in Room A170 please park and enter near Entrance 16.
